SPOILER ALERT: It has to do with “Stranger Things 2″
There’s a speech we need to hear now more than ever. A speech so powerful, so moving, a speech that still makes me well up every time I watch a YouTube clip of it. It’s Samewise Gamegee’s speech from The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers.
Just read this speech below and try not to share it on Facebook.
Sam: It’s all wrong
By rights we shouldn’t even be here.
But we are.
It’s like in the great stories Mr. Frodo.
The ones that really mattered.
Full of darkness and danger they were,
and sometimes you didn’t want to know the end.
Because how could the end be happy.
How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened.
But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow.
Even darkness must pass.
A new day will come.
And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.
Those were the stories that stayed with you.
That meant something.
Even if you were too small to understand why.
But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand.
I know now.
Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t.
Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam?
Sam : That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.
I thought of the political landscape right now and all the news that’s happening and thought — THIS.
BUT then I binged Stranger Things 2 and everything changed.
In Stranger Thing 2, A new character named Bob Newby (played by Samewise Gamegee) has instantly become a fan favorite.
With his superhero powers he earned at the end of the LotR trilogy, the town of Hawkins will never be the same.
How cool was the scene when Bob tells Will in the car about the time he beat beat Gollum?
Or how he was obsessed with the VHS Recorder because he wishes he brought one on his trip with Frodo.
I am more than confident one of the Duffer Brothers watched The Two Towers and thought — we need a character like this. Then the other brother was like — we need a character exactly like this.
